The latest winner of the in the global competition for the highest award for packaging worldwide (WorldStar Award for Packaging) is GRAFOBAL, joint stock company, Skalica for its two products: gift boxes for wine and cheese.
The WorldStar award was selected by an independent, contemporary jury from among 293 nominated packages from 35 countries at their meeting in India during October of last year. The Grafobal team after more than 110 years of continuous production has won this stellar designation for packaging, perceived as the "Packaging Oscar" a total of ten times.
Gift case for wine
The graphic design (Milan Chylo - COLOR BAND) in a country-vineyard style portrays the parallels between the values of Grafobal products and wine, while also reminding about the fact that Skalica has the largest number of vineyards per capita out of all the cities in the Slovak Republic. The newly developed and manufactured packaging in Grafobal consists of two parts. The bottom, with patent three-point bonding, after inserting the bottle by four fixation tabs around the neck, is securely mounted in two perpendicular axes. The upper portion of the package is fixed in the correct position with two locks which fit into the holes in the opposite walls with a click. The strength of the anchoring is achieved by the pre-stressing of the discharging edge. Removing the bottle, after overcoming the resistance of the fixation flaps, is preceded by the fun of finding ways of opening the lid of the perfectly closed package. To remove the lid there are two holes for the fingers to be used by pulling out to overcome the force of the catch and the lid is removed without damaging. The packaging is reclosable through the reverse process.
Gift box CHRISTMAS CHEESE SELECTION cheese – „Kozí vŕšok“
The Goat Hill gift box is completely designed and made at Grafobal for three naturally ripened cheeses with a triangular-shaped slicer (scraper for trimming the cheese), designed for exceptionally festive occasions. The dominant feature of the design structure are the isosceles triangles. In addition to the triangular shape of the entire package, the interior is also divided into four triangular areas. Three are filled with various naturally-ripened cheeses and the slicer is fixed in the fourth. The triangular shape of the packaging symbolizes the Christmas tree and the peaks of the nearby Tatras, below which herds of sheep and goats are grazed in order to achieve the highest quality milk.
The predominant yellow color of the package with the smooth graphics reminds one of the natural color of the cheese. The surprisingly pleasant feel when gripping the package, which is conveyed by its special velvety soft touch lacquer, builds on the optical sensation.
